Why a 7 Days To Die Mod Launcher?

The 7D2D Mod Launcher was created to help 7 Days To Die players and server administrators keep their modified files updated.

One of the most frustrating aspects of connecting to a modded 7 Days to Die server is getting out of date or missing icons, or requiring extra mods to play. Players would have to seek out forum posts or server administrators in order to get information about the latest versions required by the server. In popular forum threads, this information could span across several pages, and not always easy to find.

With no current Steam Workshop available, users must resort to a series of forum posts across various web sites, in various formats, and confusing instructions.

The 7D2D Mod Launcher is aimed at creating a more uniform experience to players, admins, and modders.

What does the 7D2D Mod Launcher do?

The 7D2D Mod Launcher will load an remote file, that is maintained by your server administrators, or individual modders. This file will contain download links and other server information. The 7D2D Mod Launcher will display the relevant information to you, allowing you to select a mod to play.

Based on the information in the remote file, the 7D2D Mod Launcher will download and install the mod(s) for you, either in an existing 7 Days to Die folder, or create an isolated environment to run from.

Once complete, press the Play button to start! Ever time you press the Play button, it will refresh the mods, ensuring that you are using the latest version!

How can I use it?

You can find the link to the installer in the Download section. If you already have the 7D2D Mod Launcher installed, it will check for updates every time you start it.

FAQs

Steam Workshop will open up a huge market place for modders and players, allowing an easy to deploy and manage your modding environment.

However, Steam Workshop is not yet supported in 7 Days to Die,and there's no set date on when that is happening. The 7D2D Mod Launcher aims to fill that gap by providing an easy to use and manage deployment strategy while we wait for official Steam Workshop support.

When Steam Workshop support does get released for 7 Days to Die, the 7D2D Mod Launcher will still be available, and will continue to work with existing and new mods, for as long as users continue to use it.

The installed 7D2D Mod Launcher will automatically check for updates when it starts.

The 7D2D Mod Launcher has two modes: Simple, and Advanced.

Simple mode will use an existing copy of your game, and apply the mods right into your game folder. The tool will save a back up of your XML, and redeploy them every time you switch mods. This option is the quickest and easiest way to get started, and takes up significantly less disk space. Your Steam client will keep this up to date with every new version of the game.

Advanced mode lets you isolate mods from one another by making copies of your 7 Days To Die folders, running each mod from it's own copy. This is helpful if you don't want to risk mixing up mods together, and want to keep them completely separate. Since it's a copy, you'll need to re-make the folder whenever a new version of 7 Days To Die comes up.

The 7D2D Mod Launcher is available to the community for free. It was developed to support the Forum Fanatics to help manage multiple servers, with frequent mod updates being applied to the servers. It was then expanded to handle individual mods for single players.

There are no ads, no spy ware, no tracking of anything inside of the application. Due to requests, I have added a non-intrusive Donation link inside the application, and on the web site above.

I'm a system analyst who felt that playing on modded servers was more of a hassle then necessary. I designed and developed a tool to help resolve some of the most routine tasks.

This tool was developed independently from The Fun Pimps, and is unofficial.

The 7D2D Mod Launcher was designed to deploy downloadable mod files, and install them in the correct position. If a modder structures their downloadable file(s) in a standard format, the mod should work.

The 7D2D Mod Launcher does not create or change any mods. It simply uses pre-existing mods made and released independently by modders.

Support can be found on the official 7 Days To Die forums and through email at Support@7d2dlauncher.org.

With the 7D2D Mod Launcher, players have flexibility in choosing where to install and play modded games. Built in steam support is not available, however, you can ad the 7D2D Mod Launcher desktop short cut to your Steam Client as a Non-Game, then launch the launcher through Steam. The over lay will then work.

Note: We are using OneClick Publishing for deployment and updates for the 7D2D Mod Launcher, so every update of the application will cause you to remove the existing 7D2D Mod Launcher from Steam, and re-add the short cut. We are looking for a long term solution for this issue.
